How do I send emails in several languages?
Short answer
Each guest has a language, and every email template has a version per language. A guest with language German gets the German version. Write your text in the languages you need with the flag buttons in the template editor; languages you leave empty use the standard text. Supported: English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese.
How a guest gets a language
- Registers through the public page: the browser language, if supported, otherwise the event language.
- Added by you: the event language, unless you choose another one on the guest.
- Imported: a Language column in the CSV (en, nl, de, fr, es, it, pt), otherwise the event language.
- Changed by the guest: switching language on the RSVP page updates it.
Write the templates
- Open Emails and edit a template.
- Click a flag to switch language. The fields show the standard text in that language until you type your own.
- Write subject and body for each language you care about. Variables work the same in every language.
- Send yourself a test per language; the test uses the language selected in the editor.
Guest pages
The RSVP, registration and confirmation pages use the same guest language, with their own texts per language in the RSVP editor. Guests can switch language on the page with the language menu.
Tips
- Fill in only the languages your guests actually have; check the language column on the guest list.
- Keep the event name and location the same across languages; they come from the event, not the template.
- For a bilingual audience with one list, write both languages in one text, separated by a blank line, and set all guests to one language.
Questions about this
- Can I add a language that is not in the list?
- Not yet. For another language, write the text into one of the seven slots (for example English) and set your guests to that language.
- Do the calendar file and QR ticket follow the language?
- Yes. Button labels, dates and the standard lines around your text are in the guest's language.
- Is there automatic translation?
- No. Your own texts appear only in the languages you wrote them in; standard texts exist in all seven.
